Health and Wellness Trend Predictions For 2020
According to the Global Wellness Institute, the global wellness market is now valued at $4.2 trillion, up from 12.8% from $3.7 trillion in 2015. That number is expected to rise because more people are starting to realize the importance of self-care. As a result in the increased interest in wellness, brands everywhere have been pumping out millions of different products targeted towards the mental health and wellness markets.
I scoured the internet to find what is projected to be big in health and wellness in 2020. Here are some things that I found.
People Want Experiences
People love to experience wellness. We love a good spa retreat, fitness pop-up or wellness festival. Researchers have found that people value an experience over a material possession. So in 2020 you are going to see brands capitalize on this trend. Think pop-up activities at your favorite apparel retailers, wellness booths at festivals and concerts, and wellness-focused vacations. Anything that allows people to walk away having experienced something rather than with a physical thing.
People Want More Sleep
We all want more sleep since we never seem to get enough every night. The National Sleep Foundation found that 45% of Americans aren't getting the sleep that they need. We are going to see sleep become a major focus in 2020. People consider sleep to be a luxury and a lot of people are using sleep apps to help balance their sleeping patterns. Expect sleep-focused apps to continue to rise in popularity. Other sure to be trends in sleep will be natural supplements, non-toxic mattresses and bedding and mid-day visits to nap pods like Houston's Nap Bar.
People Want To Be Emotional
Personal wellness is a never-ending quest. In 2020 people are going to be putting a greater focus on practices that will help to manage their mental health like journaling, therapy or meditation. You will see a lot of themed gratitude journals, different and new ways to approach traditional therapy and classes and apps that help people practice meditation.
People Want Alternatives
Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) continues to gain in popularity due to people jumping on the alternative medicine bandwagon. It is a wonderful complement to modern medicine and many are starting to have an open mind when it comes to CAM. The most popular examples are guided visualization, meditation, acupuncture and even ear seeding. These practices will all become more popular and accessible.
People Want Alt-Meat
Carnivores nationwide are choosing alt-meat as an alternative meat option. You can blame alt-burgers, like Burger King's Impossible Burger, for this recent phenomenon. In 2020, people are going to move beyond burgers and want a variety of plant-based proteins and brands are churning out new varieties produced in never-done-before ways to meet the huge demand.
People Want Youth
People just want to look younger, and the beauty industry has noticed. There have been a flood of new anti-aging products for consumers to try in 2019. Looking forward to 2020, Lymphatic health and massage will be all the rage. Manual lymphatic drainage has become a popular offering at many spas and skin clinics. Also there will be a surge in at-home lymphatic devices like NuFace, Ziip and those jade rollers that are suddenly sold everywhere. I have one and I am obsessed with it. There will also be a trend of people going to "fitness" centers for your face like FaceGym and FaceLove Fitness.
