Simple Ways To Boost Your Happiness In 2020

Happiness doesn't just happen. It is usually the result of positive choices that you have made. You can make choices in your life that will help you to be happier. So you can chose to be happy. Here are some simple changes or choices that you can make in your life that will lead you down a happier path in 2020.

Build and Nurture Strong Relationships

One of the most important components of happiness is strong connections with other people. Being lonely is a bummer and has a negative impact on your overall well-being. Having good relationships will keep you happier and healthier. Just one rock solid relationship will enable you to feel the mental benefits. You need someone that you can rely on, a shoulder to cry on, someone to let loose with. A ride or die. And while that is totally fine if that person is your partner, personally, I suggest friending someone outside of your romantic relationship to keep balance in your life and relationships.

Make sure that you take the time to nurture your friendships. Set aside time for phone calls or Facetime sessions, and plan get-togethers as often as possible.

Help Yourself Grow

People are more likely to thrive when they are in an atmosphere of growth. Research shows that people who have a sense of purpose in their lives are more fulfilled and are healthier overall. This might be because people who have a purpose in life have a more positive outlook about the goals in their life, and take better care of themselves. So find what you are passionate about and start building on it. Or figure out your weaknesses and work to improve where you are lagging behind. You could start a blog, download a language app or seek out the help of a financial coach.

Rock Out Everyday

This is the easiest way to be happier. Just listen to the music that you love everyday. Seems simple, but I promise you that it will make a huge difference in your overall happiness. Studies have shown that listening to your favorite music can reduce your levels of cortisol, which is a hormone that works to change you immune system responses and suppress your digestive system. It can even potentially relieve pain. So get your groove on and soak up the good vibes.

Do Good

You don't have to do anything on a large scale to reap the benefits of this tip. Be on the lookout for small, but kind actions that you can take on a daily basis. Help your elderly neighbor carry their groceries, compliment a stranger, or look someone in the eye and sincerely wish them a great day. Research shows that engaging in selfless acts is associated with greater well-being, happiness, health and longevity.

Change Your Mind

This might sound too simple or a little woo-woo but it is truly effective. Instead of focusing on the negative things in your life, spend your energy focusing on the positive. Your mood will elevate instantly and with regular practice, will train your brain to notice the nice things more often. Consider using a gratitude journal. It forces you to find the positive in your life. And once you find your positivity, really take the time to appreciate it.

Meditate

I cannot recommend meditating enough. My daily practice has truly changed my life. The act of mindfulness trains you to turn your attention away from negative events. You simply focus on the present moment. Studies have shown that mindfulness can actually change your brain and help you deal with stress better. If you are looking for an app to aide in your meditation practice, try Insight Timer. It's the best one I have found and it is free. And if you feel like meditation just isn't your thing, try yoga. Yoga combines mindfulness with exercise. Exercise brings the added benefit of endorphins to the table, which have been proven to make us happier.

Be kind to yourself, be kind to others. Take care of your mental health and take the time to appreciate the positive. 2020 can be your happiest year yet!
