National School Counseling Week

The theme of 2020's National School Counseling week is "School Counselors: Helping Build Better Humans" and will be celebrated the week of February 3-7, 2020. National School Counseling week is always celebrated annually on the first full week of February. The purpose of the week is to take time to focus on the contributions made by school counselors across the United States. The week highlights the huge impact that counselors can have in helping students to achieve their goals and be successful in school.

This year counselors are being encouraged ti participate by taking pictures or videos of that day's theme and share to their socials using the hashtag #NSCW2020. You can find each day's theme on the ASCA's website. Counselors can also download signs to use as props in their pictures and videos and it is suggested to involve students, families and school colleagues to join in on the fun.

Counselors can also download the National School Counseling Week promo tool kit.

National School Counselor week is sponsored by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA).

I truly think that school counselors are heroes. I have personally had great experiences with my own guidance counselors and the counselors that my children have had in their schools. My 5th grader's guidance counselor holds a weekly meeting just for 5th grade girls to discuss things like rumors, social media and peer pressure. She also helped to connect me to resources in order to help me get my 5th grader into therapy. I am so thankful for her.

So join me February 3-7, 2020 in celebrating school counselors nationwide by sharing your positive school counselor experience using the hashtag #NSCW2020 and by connecting to ASCA on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
