5 Things Unhappy People Do

We all have days where we feel less than fantastic. Being unhappy is a valid human emotion that is going to affect you a bunch of times throughout your life. But there are things that you could be doing without realizing that it is having an impact on your happiness. Why cause more negativity when you can avoid it? Let's all commit to stopping the five behaviors below in order to be our happiest selves.

1. Worrying About Things You Can't Change

Sometimes our mind wanders to what things could have been like if we had acted or chosen different. Usually it is a waste of time. People who are unhappy have a tendency to dwell on the "could've, should've, would've" of life. Instead of worrying about what we can't change, we should focus on learning from our mistakes so that we can do better next time.

2. Never Exercising

There are so many mental and physical benefits associated with exercisng. The more you exercise, the better you feel and the more likely you are to lead a healthy lifestyle. When you choose to  be a couch potato, you are choosing a lifestyle that has a negative effect on your mood, health and happiness. So get active and boost your overall well-being.

3. Setting Unreachable Goals

Setting goals is important. But when we set unrealistic goals, it can become a problem. nWhen you reach for the stars and then fail to catch any, it can leave you feeling disappointed and possibly full of self-loathing. Take baby steps and start small when setting goals so that you will feel great when you meet and maybe even exceed them.

4. Focusing On Weaknesses

Being insecure is a common issue. But unhappy people put a lot of focus on their weaknesses. You have to try to embrace the good and not focus on the bad. It's important to recognize your flaws and own them. That way, we can work on having a positive self-image and not let your weaknesses hold us back.

5. Staying Comfy

It's so easy to stay in our comfort zones. We feel safe there and the potential for risky scenarios to unfold is low. But when we stay there, it stops us from experiencing all that life has to offer. Boredom is a big contributor to unhappiness, but can easily be fixed by getting out there and trying new things. Take some risks! Go to an interesting movie, take your dog for a hike or even a quick trip to the library to explore books.

BONUS: Refusing To Forgive

Holding onto grudges is a great way to make yourself unhappy. There is such a freedom and peace in letting go and forgiving. Not only to others, but to yourself as well.
