Self-Care Sunday- Re: Your Quarantine Look

When my family started our quarantine adventure four weeks ago, I was really good about keeping up appearances. I showered daily, applied makeup, did my hair and wore actual clothes and shoes. Not so much now. I've fallen off the wagon. Dry shampoo and leggings are my best friends, my makeup bag hasn't been opened in AT LEAST 3 days and my Birkenstocks have been getting a lot of attention lately. And I have been wearing them WITH SOCKS. I know, I know....gasp. It's a messy bun, t-shirt, shiny face kind of look. My eyebrows need to be plucked, my legs are hairy and I have officially established what "dressy sweatpants" are. Why get dressed if you aren't going anywhere? What's the point right? All I'm doing is feeding kids and cleaning. Plus lounging around doesn't have a strict dress code. Who cares?

Well, the truth is that you should care. And makeup may seem trivial during a global pandemic, but experts say that looking your best can actually make a big difference in how we approach and deal with these strange times we are living in.

During the week, getting dressed will help the weekdays to feel different from the weekend days. Plus, studies have shown that people who wear makeup tend to have higher test scores than those who don't. So one could assume that being put-together could help you to be more productive. Practicing a "getting-ready" process will help you to keep a routine and thus a sense of normalcy while you are at home. Plus, it is truly amazing what a little mascara and a bra can do for your mood.

Not to mention how calming and meditative the whole process is. Performing this simple self-care task can make you feel stronger and more resilient during these tough times.

I for one am going to make a bigger effort to get dressed on most, if not all, weekdays. The importance and benefits are just too big to ignore. And honestly, what else do I have going on? It will give me something to do that isn't educating, feeding or cleaning up after my children. Self-care y'all. Get in on it.
