This Might Be Why You Are So Tired
You are sleeping at least eight hours every night. You exercise regularly and since you have been stuck at home, naps have become a daily ritual.
So why are you so fucking tired all of the time? Personally, since the shelter-in-place orders were issues, I have felt like I am walking around in a thick fog. I'm a zombie putzing around with no motivation and a dangerously low energy supply.
Besides the obvious drawbacks to feeling tired all of the time our current situation brings out new worries over being tired. I am constantly second guessing my health since fatigue is a common symptom of the coronavirus. But doctors say that there is another explanation for your sleepiness that can be related to trauma.
In these uncertain times, people may feel fearful and anxious about things that are out of their control. Stress, worry and anxiety can all cause fatigue. And our usual stress, worry and anxiety can be exacerbated by our current situation. These negative feelings could cause us to overthink, become fearful or even grieve. That can cause disruption to our usual routines and can affect the quality of our sleep. The result is that you find yourself with low energy levels during the day.
Exhaustion is a common response to traumatic events, whether they are sudden or slow-developing like the changes we are going through now. During and after a traumatic event, you may experience sleep problems, poor concentration and memory and brain fog.
The best way to deal with this burnout is to try to handle your stress in constructive and positive ways. Isolation can contribute to your negative feelings, so be sure to reach out to friends and family as often as possible. Stick to a daily schedule and set small, achievable goals for yourself. Remember that both over-activinty and under-activity can cause fatigue, so get moving. Be kind to yourself during this time, limit your media intake and try to get yourself involved in a hobby to keep yourself busy.
