Resources For Moms

Being a mom is tough. I talked about that recently in this post about when to ask for help. I wanted to offer moms of all walks of life resources that they could use to help their mental health, well-being and ultimately their life. Here are some really wonderful places to turn to when you need help, encouragement or to just not feel so alone. Let me know if there is somewhere or someone that you turn to in times of need. Maybe it could help others!

Motherhood Understood

This platform was designed by creator Jen after she realized that she wasn't the only mom suffering in silence. She made Motherhood Understood to be "an honest, judgment-free place to connect, with ourselves and each other". Jen shares her personal story on the website and encourages other moms to do the same. Motherhood Understood works to unmask the not-so-pretty role of mothering that we are taught to believe comes easily and naturally. Their ultimate goal is "to educate, connect and prepare women for the emotional complications that sometimes accompany childbirth in the weeks, months or even years that follow".

So what can you do and find on Motherhood Understood? You can connect with their online community to get advice and ask questions about anything. You can read stories shared by real moms. You can join the Motherhood Understood "crew" and get information sent directly to your email weekly. Be sure to check out their events page to see if anything is happening near you. Visit the Motherhood Understood website here and follow them on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

Hello My Tribe

Hello My Tribe is "a community focused on the well-being of women and mothers:. Hello My Tribe believes three things:

  1. Motherhood is a team effort.
  2. Women deserve more.
  3. A woman/mother's health and wellness should be a top priority.
They bring their beliefs to life by educating, empowering and involving women and mothers. You can interact with Hello My Tribe in many ways. They have a podcast that you can listen to. Campaigns that you can participate in. Content you can read, opportunities to contribute stories or if you live in Austin, TX you can become a member. You can read their blog, and offer your services if you can bring professional expertise to the table. Peruse the Hello My Tribe website here, and follow them on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

2020 Mom

The mission of 2020 Mom is "to close gaps in maternal mental health care". On their website you can find their blog, literature on advocacy and many other resources like screening tools. There is a training section, an event calender and a remembrance wall dedicated to moms that have been lost due to suicide. You can even join the movement here. Visit 2020 Mom on their website and follow them on Facebook and Twitter.

Podcasts

Podcasts are another great way to tap into other resources for moms, hear first hand account stories from moms or just help you feel more connected to a community of people. My two favorite motherhood podcasts are:

This is a super fun and laid back podcast that covers everything from "parenting techniques to playground drama to post-baby sex, no topic is off limits for hilarious hosts Ashley and Keri". They have a confession segment that is always entertaining. Listening to them truly feels like you are hanging out with your best friends.

I adore Hilaria Baldwin and Daphne Oz separately but put them together on a podcast about being a mom and I am so down. They are real life best friends who "along with other mom guests talk about the ups and downs of trying to be the best mom they can be". It's very funny and super informative.

Romper has a great article that outlines 15 mom-focused podcasts that are worth your time. You can read that here.

Last, I will leave you with three articles that perfectly articulate just how hard being a mom is and why it's so important to take care of yourself when you are a mom.
